CSRTHINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Our Group’s flagship CSR project is the Homagama Base Hospital located 18 kilometers from Colombo in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. Established in 1946 by Late Mr. Bamunu Arachchige Semanaris Appuhami the father of Group Chairman, B.A. Mahipala, the hospital was built to serve the needs of the Homagama area to which Mr. Mahipala and his family can trace their ancestral roots.
Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, BAM Holdings and its subsidiaries, including Thermo Plastics (Pvt) Ltd donated Rs. 140 million into building a new Out Patient Department (OPD) as part of the first of six phases of upgrades and renovations to the hospital under the Group’s CSR outreach project.
A further two wards are being constructed using a further Rs. 100 million donated by the Group in the second phase of development while 4 operating theaters will be added to the hospital’s capacity during the third phase.
Thereafter, the Group aims to work in partnership and collaboration with supply chain partners and other industries in the area to further develop the hospital to bring its standards on par with those of the best international healthcare facilities such as Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
Our goal in implementing this CSR project is to provide the citizens of Homagama, and surrounding towns with the best possible healthcare in Sri Lanka and eventually re-developing the Homagama Base Hospital into a medical hub for the Western Province going forward.
